What does "Save Card Details" mean?

The Save Card Details feature allows you to securely store a customer's card details for a booking, making it possible to charge for damages or other additional costs after the booking has been completed. This is particularly useful for rental businesses that may need to process charges after a customer's stay or hire period has ended.

This feature does not work as a security deposit. No amount is pre-authorised, reserved, or charged in advance. Instead, the customer's card details are securely stored (when paying online by card), allowing you as an administrator to charge the card later if any additional costs arise.

Examples of when this feature can be used:

  • Damage to property, accommodation, or equipment

  • Equipment or items not returned as agreed

  • Additional cleaning charges

  • Other extra costs that arise after the booking has ended

For an additional charge to be successful, the customer must have sufficient funds available on their card at the time the charge is processed. If the payment cannot be completed, you will be notified accordingly.

Enabling the Feature

  1. Go to Settings → Payments → Adyen → Payment Methods.

  2. Enable the "Save Card Details" feature below the list of payment methods.

Note: Not all payment methods support saved card details. This feature is only available for payments made with a physical payment card and is not supported for payment methods such as Swish, Vipps, MobilePay, Klarna, or Trustly.

Terms for Saving Card Details

When the feature is enabled, terms and conditions are automatically added to the booking flow and must be accepted by the customer when making a booking. The customer will also receive a PDF copy of the terms and conditions together with their booking confirmation.

View the terms and conditions that customers are required to accept here.

Charge a Saved Card

  1. Open the booking that you would like to charge.

  2. Add the product that should be charged to the booking and, if necessary, adjust the price so that it matches the amount to be charged to the customer.

  3. Under the Payment section, click "New Payment".

  4. Enter the amount you would like to charge.

  5. Select the saved card as the payment method.

  6. Enter a reason for the charge. This reason will be shown to the customer.

  7. Click "Register Payment" to process the charge

Tip: Create add-on products for the types of charges that may need to be billed after a booking, such as Unreturned Equipment, Additional Cleaning, or Late Return. This makes it easy to add the relevant product to the booking and adjust the booking total before processing the additional charge.

Which payment methods support Save Card Details?

Only payments made using a registered payment card are supported. It is not possible to save card details for payment methods such as Swish, Vipps, MobilePay, Klarna, or Trustly.

What happens if the customer does not have sufficient funds on their card when the charge is processed?

If the customer does not have sufficient funds available on their card, the charge will not be successful and you will receive a notification that the payment has failed. You can then attempt to process the charge again at a later time.
