How to Create a Gift Voucher

This article explains how to create gift vouchers in BookSpot, customise the available settings, adjust the design and how customers redeem their voucher codes. Gift vouchers are a good way to increase revenue.

The Value Code Type “Gift Card”

A value code type is a product that is sold to the customer and a gift card is a value code type with a fixed stored value. When you create a gift card, it will appear alongside your main products in the booking view.

Note: A value code type is not the same as an individual value code or discount code.

  • Value code types are sold as products to customers.

  • Value codes and discount codes are created manually, for example when running promotions.

Activate Sales of codes

If you have never created a voucher type in BookSpot before, you will first need to enable gift voucher sales.

  1. As an administrator, go to Voucher & Discount Codes > Settings > Voucher Sales.

  2. Click "Activate sales of vouchers".

  3. Click Save in the right corner.

Create a Gift Card

  1. Go to the value code settings
Click on Products (in the left hand menu)→ Value & Discount Codes → Settings.

  2. Create a new value code type
Under Value codes for sale, click Create new value code type.

  3. Fill in the basic information

    • Name of the gift card

    • A description

    • A booking confirmation specific to this gift card

    • A image (shown in the product list and in the widget)

    • Choose value type. For gift cards, select Fixed value / Gift card.

  4. Set the value settings
Choose whether the gift card should be sold for a fixed price (e.g. 1000 SEK), or activate Custom amount to let the customer choose the value themselves

  5. Adjust other important settings

    • Active for sale: Must be enabled for the gift card to appear in the booking view.

    • Validity period: Set how long the gift card is valid (for example: 365 days).

    • Applicable products: Decide whether the gift card should apply to all products or only selected ones.

    • Combine with other codes: Enable this if the gift card should be usable together with other gift cards, discounts or value codes in the same booking.

  6. Save
When everything is filled in, click Save 🔒.

Example: Gift Voucher for a Specific Course

We create the value code type "Gift Card Kayak Course – 1000 SEK", which is a gift card with a value of 1000 SEK that should only be valid for a specific product.

  1. Create a new value code type.

  2. Name the gift card and add a description.

  3. Select Value Type to Fixed Value/Gift Card.

  4. Set Price to 1000 SEK.

  5. Activate for sale (allow it to appear on your booking page).

  6. Set Validity Period to 365.

  7. Deactivate 'valid for all products' and select only the specific product.

  8. Don't forget to save! 🔒.

Done, now the customer can find the value code type "Gift Card Kayak Course – 1000 SEK" along with your other products in the bookingwidget!✅

Design Gift Card

  1. Go to the settings for the specific gift card you would like to design.

  2. Under the Appearance tab, click Create Design.

A preview of an automatically generated gift voucher will be displayed. You can use this as a starting point or customise it completely using the available design settings.

Design options available:

  • Images: Choose from standard images or upload your own.

  • Title and text: Set the title, text size (small, medium, large) and text color.

  • Visible information: Decide whether the amount, validity period and logo should be shown

  • Background shading: Use this to make text and the logo stand out more clearly.

The preview updates instantly as you make changes. When you’re satisfied with the design, don’t forget to save!

Usage of the gift Card

When a customer purchases a gift card, a uniqe value code is generated automatically. This code is then sent to the customer in their booking confirmation.
To redeem the gift card, the customer simply enters the value code during the booking process, right after providing their contact details.

FAQs

Fixed or Custom Amount for the Gift Card – Which Should I Choose?

  • A fixed amount is ideal when you want to offer customers clear and predefined options, such as £25, £50 or £100. This works especially well if the gift card is intended for a specific product where the value matches the full price.

  • A custom amount gives the customer the freedom to choose their own value, making it a flexible and user‑friendly option.

What does the gift card look like for the customer when they receive it?

  • The customer receives a receipt with a confirmation of the purchase and the code. If they want to give the gift card to someone else, they can click "View gift card".

  • The gift card will open in the design you created and display all important information. The customer can print the gift card or share the link.
